Meet Dr Cheryl Lee

Hello, I'm Dr Cheryl Lee Aeschlimann.

Thank you for visiting my website.

I have been privileged to care for patients for more than 35 years as an ophthalmologist. My career has taken me from Singapore to some of the world's leading eye centres, including Bristol, Bath, Cheltenham and Cambridge in England, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, USA, and Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital in Paris, France.

Returning to Singapore was one of the most rewarding decisions of my career. It has been an honour to care for generations of families and to be recognised with induction into The Straits Times Hall of Fame.

Why Myopia Became My Life's Work

When I returned to Singapore after my training overseas, one thing immediately struck me. Everywhere I looked, children, teenagers and adults were wearing glasses.

Singapore has one of the highest rates of myopia in the world, and I began asking myself an important question: Were we doing enough to protect the long-term eye health of patients with myopia?

For me, myopia has never been simply about helping people see clearly without glasses. High myopia is associated with an increased risk of retinal detachment, glaucoma, earlier cataracts and other potentially sight-threatening conditions.

That realisation shaped the direction of my career. I wanted to care for patients throughout every stage of life—from slowing myopia progression in children, to helping adults achieve freedom from glasses, and caring for the eye conditions associated with myopia as people grow older.

Today, myopia control is one of the defining strengths of our clinic.

My Areas of Expertise

Over the years, I have been fortunate to receive training across several ophthalmic subspecialties, allowing me to provide comprehensive care throughout every stage of life.

My special interests include:

Myopia Control for Children

EVO Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) Vision Correction

Cataract Surgery

Dry Eye Disease

Retinal Surgery

Rather than focusing on a single condition, I enjoy caring for patients throughout their lifetime—from a child's first eye examination to cataract surgery later in life.

A Personal Note

I am also the mother of a wonderful 12-year-old son.

My passion for myopia control is therefore both professional and personal. The practical advice I share with parents is not simply based on research—it is the same advice and habits I have practised within my own family. Watching my son grow up with healthy eyesight continually reminds me why early intervention and healthy visual habits matter so much.

Innovation Has Always Been Part of Our Philosophy

From the beginning, my goal has been simple: to offer patients more.

More innovation.

More personalised care.

More evidence-based treatment options.

Over the years, The Eye Clinic by Dr Cheryl Lee has become recognised for introducing advanced technologies and treatments, including offering the full range of evidence-based myopia control options, pioneering EVO ICL surgery for suitable patients seeking an alternative to laser vision correction, introducing premium cataract lenses that reduce dependence on reading glasses, and establishing a dedicated dry eye clinic focused on treating the underlying causes of dry eye disease rather than simply relieving symptoms.

The Eye Doctor – Our Dedicated Dry Eye Centre

In 2022, we established The Eye Doctor, our specialist dry eye clinic at Mandarin Gallery.

We recognised that many patients had been relying on eye drops for years without addressing the underlying causes of their symptoms. By investing in advanced diagnostic equipment and modern treatment technologies, we aim to provide long-term solutions for dry eye disease and meibomian gland dysfunction.

Beyond the Clinic

I enjoy travelling, skiing, art and learning languages. These experiences continually remind me that every patient has a unique story, and I believe medicine should always remain personal.

I am happy to consult in English, Mandarin, Teochew, Hokkien, French, Spanish, Russian and Malay, allowing me to care for patients from many different backgrounds.

A Personal Welcome

This website is a little different from most medical websites because I designed it myself.

You may notice that this website feels a little different from many medical websites.

That's because I designed and built it myself.

It may not have all the polish of a professionally designed commercial website, but every page reflects my own voice, my philosophy and the way I practise medicine. I hope you'll forgive the occasional imperfection, because creating it has been a wonderful learning journey.

I've always believed that learning should never stop. Whether it's embracing new technologies in ophthalmology or teaching myself how to build a website, I enjoy challenging myself to learn something new. It keeps me curious, creative and continually looking for better ways to help my patients.

Building this website also means I can update it myself whenever new research, practical guides or useful information become available, allowing me to share the latest developments with you without having to wait for someone else to make the changes. I am writing this page at Alpe d’huez whilst at the legendary stage of Tour de France 2026.

I hope that, as you explore the site, you'll not only find trustworthy information but also get a genuine sense of who I am. When we meet in person, I think you'll find the website reflects my personality—curious, practical and always looking for better ways to care for people.

I wanted it to reflect not only the treatments we offer, but also the philosophy that guides my practice. I hope you'll find the information helpful, enjoy the videos and stories I share, and gain a genuine sense of the personalised care my team and I strive to provide every day.

I look forward to welcoming you to The Eye Clinic.
