BlephEx® is an in-clinic treatment designed to remove the bacteria, biofilm, debris and dead skin that build up along the eyelid margins. How Does BlephEx® Work?
Using a soft, medical-grade disposable micro-sponge that rotates gently along the eyelid margins, BlephEx® exfoliates the eyelids and removes bacteria, biofilm, debris and cylindrical dandruff associated with Demodex.
The procedure is performed in the clinic, usually takes around 5–10 minutes, and most patients find it comfortable with little or no downtime.

Why Dr Cheryl Lee Recommends BlephEx®
BlephEx® is not recommended for every patient with dry eyes. During your consultation, Dr Cheryl Lee carefully examines your eyelids, tear film and meibomian glands to determine whether bacteria, biofilm or Demodex are contributing to your symptoms. If so, BlephEx® may be recommended as part of a personalised treatment plan. It is often combined with treatments such as Eye-Light®, Tixel® or an ongoing eyelid hygiene programme to improve long-term eyelid health.

Does BlephEx® remove Demodex mites?
BlephEx® helps remove biofilm, debris and cylindrical dandruff from the eyelid margins, creating a healthier environment for the eyelids. If Demodex infestation is present, Dr Cheryl Lee may also recommend additional treatments and eyelid hygiene measures as part of a personalised management plan.
Is BlephEx® painful?
Most patients find BlephEx® comfortable. A soft, disposable micro-sponge gently cleans along the eyelid margins while your eyes remain closed. The procedure usually causes little or no discomfort.
How long does the treatment take?
The procedure typically takes 10–15 minutes for both eyes. You can usually return to your normal daily activities immediately afterwards.
How often should BlephEx® be performed?
This depends on the severity of your blepharitis and eyelid inflammation. Some patients benefit from periodic maintenance treatments, while others only require treatment when symptoms flare up. Dr Cheryl Lee will recommend a schedule based on your individual needs.
Can BlephEx® cure blepharitis?
Blepharitis is often a chronic condition that requires ongoing management. BlephEx® helps remove the bacteria and biofilm that contribute to inflammation, but maintaining good eyelid hygiene at home is equally important for long-term control.
Can BlephEx® be combined with other dry eye treatments?
Yes. BlephEx® is often combined with other treatments such as Eye-Light®, Tixel®, warm compresses, eyelid hygiene and lubricating eye drops. The most effective treatment plan depends on the underlying cause of your dry eye disease.
Is there any downtime after BlephEx®?
There is usually little or no downtime. Some patients notice mild eyelid sensitivity for a short time after treatment, but most return to work and normal activities straight away.
