1) Dry eyes

2) Infection

To prevent Infection

The safety profile of ortho-k is comparable to wearing daytime reusable soft contact lenses but to reduce the risk even more, the eyelashes need to be kept clean.

Blephex, we would suggest every 6 -12 months

What Is Blephex?

A medical grade micro-sponge spins thoroughly and carefully along your upper and lower lid margins to remove excess bacteria, biofilm and toxins from your lashes and lash follicles. The single used micro-sponge is disposable and is changed after cleaning each eye.

What does Blephex treat?

Blepharitis which is inflammation of the eyelids. The eyelids become red, itchy, crusty and irritated due overgrowth of bacteria along the lid margins.

Allergic Eye Disease. By thoroughly cleaning the allergens from the eyelashes which is important in removing the cause of the eye allergy.

The home care would be to use lid wipes to keep the lashes clean before inserting the contact lenses.

Tea tree oil wipes and hyaluronic lid wipes.

To Prevent Dry Eyes and Styes

Wearing of contact lenses of any sort would increase the chance of dry eyes. Dry eyes would cause discomfort, increase the risk of infections and styes. The reason is an interesting read.

We would insist that all patients on contact lenses take an omega 3-available in capsule or syrup form.

Eye drops do not cure

dry eyes

The tear film consists of water and oil, with the oil preventing evaporation. Lubricating eye drops don't cure dry eyes; treatment is needed to restore the oil layer. The meibomian glands produce this oil, but excessive dryness can cause overproduction, leading to blocked glands (meibomitis) and potentially styes if untreated.

70% of dry eyes result from meibomitis, or blocked oil glands. Unblocking these glands can cure your dry eyes! This is carried out by a treatment called Eye-Light.

These precautions will make wearing contact lenses safer and more comfortable, encouraging you to wear them longer.
