Are your dry eyes properly treated?

Fed up with dry eyes?

what is the best way to treat dry eyes? Eye drops not working for my dry eyes. My eyes are tired and red, what eye drops to use?

You may have tried many different eye drops, only to find little or no relief. The truth is, while lubricating drops can ease discomfort temporarily, eye drops alone cannot cure dry eyes.

If you have had LASIK surgery, dry eyes can sometimes be more difficult to treat. This is because the surgery can affect the nerves that help regulate tear production.

At The Eye Clinic by Dr. Cheryl Lee, we take a comprehensive approach to diagnosing and treating dry eyes. By identifying the underlying causes — whether related to tear quality, eyelid health, or nerve changes after LASIK — we can create a personalised treatment plan that goes beyond just eye drops, helping you find lasting comfort and healthier vision.

Why don’t eye drops cure dry eyes?”

“Because they only replace moisture temporarily without addressing the root cause”

Dry eyes aren’t caused by not having enough tears. The problem is that your tears are of poor quality.

Most dry eyes come from Meibomitis and Blepharitis.

What is meibomitis?

Marginal gland disease, meibomitis causes dry eyes, Hot compress for Marginal gland disease? Eye drops does not help meibomitis.

The tear film is made up of 1 inner layer of water and 1 outer layer of oil. Good oil in the outer tear film acts as a water proof barrier which stops the inner water layer from drying out. When eyes are dry, more tears are formed as a reflex which means more water and oil are formed. The oil is produced by the meibomian glands on the eyelid margin. When we make too much oil, the meibum quality changed into thick white heads and block the glands. This is called meibomitis or marginal gland disease. If not treated, it can cause styes.

    Eye-Light®

IPL and LED help open blocked oil glands on the face. Blocked eyelid glands (meibomitis) cause 70% of dry eyes. IPL and LED now help make a healthy oil layer on your tears.

    Tixel®

Tixel is a heat treatment first used for wrinkles and acne, now also improving the oil in tears. It uses Thermo-Mechanical Ablation (TMA®), a non-laser method.

What is Blepharitis?

Another main cause of dry eyes is blepharitis, which means inflamed eyelids.

Eyelids turn red, itchy, crusty, and irritated because of too many bacteria on the eyelid edges. Eye drops don't cure blepharitis. Blephex is an FDA-approved device that carefully cleans the eyelashes.

Lasik can cause dry eyes, and many patients have dry eyes after Lasik. I treat meibomitis and blepharitis first before using other treatments like punctal plugs.

  • Kirsten Thrum. After suffering from dry eyes for far too long and without improvement with eye drops, I attended the Eye Clinic by Dr Cheryl for assessment. The treatment Dr Cheryl suggested has worked wonders. No more dry eyes and no more strained eyes. The treatment is painless and relaxing. My only regret is that I waited so long to see the professional and personable Dr Cheryl and her amazing staff.

  • Simon Cheng. 6 months ago I found Dr Cheryl on Google 5 mths ago as I badly needed a good doctor to take care of my dry eye issues which was really affecting my daily life and my work. I am glad I made the right decision in engaging Dr Cheryl's service. Both she and her entire team are super professional. No hard sell, she asked all the right qns and did the necessary tests to pin point the cause my issues, provided me with all the facts and options, and ordered the required treatments which turned out to be very effective. Thank you Dr Cheryl and team!

  • Florence Seow. After suffering from dry eyes for over a year, which increasingly affected my vision, and after consulting several doctors to no avail, I came to Dr Cheryl Lee. Dr Cheryl Lee is highly professional. Within the first few minutes of the initial consultation, she had identified the root cause of my dry eyes, and recommended several (very effective) treatments. My dry eyes improved significantly after and has only continued to do so. Dr Cheryl Lee is also extremely transparent. I remember thinking that these treatments were lifelong. However, Dr Cheryl Lee quickly informed me that all I needed was 2-3 treatments. There was no hard sell. Dr Cheryl Lee and her team are also super approachable. For example, during a subsequent consultation, I mentioned that my left eye was still suffering dryness although my right eye was great. Previous doctors shook me off, insisting that all I needed were eye drops and eye lid wipes, but Dr Cheryl Lee and her team listened and were persistent in their efforts to resolve this mystery. My dry eyes have now improved and I only return for check ups, such as lid cleansing or a treatment, if and when appropriate. I’ve never written a Google review but my experience with The Eye Clinic definitely warrants one. I am so impressed with the service and mostly importantly, the results. For anyone suffering from dry eyes, I definitely recommend The Eye Clinic!
